CHICO, Calif. - People on bikes and in groups holding protest signs organized late Saturday morning in Chico City Plaza before marching through downtown streets on behalf of women's rights.
"There are a lot of reasons why women have abortions and we need to uphold that and protect that," said march organizer Claire Fong.
"I think that people in this country really value freedom, and this is a huge part of that freedom, is autonomy over your own body -- and if you don't feel prepared to have a child, then that should be your choice," Fong said.
Not everyone at the downtown march shared that same opinion. Local Miguel Belmonte was there, and said, "I'm not here to argue with them."
"I'm not here to force or cram anything down their throats," he continued. "But I think all life is valuable and that's pretty much the only point that I wanted to make."
Several of the marchers said they want to make a change for the women in the world that do not have the same rights. They shared with Action News Now that they felt it was important and necessary to stand up for women's rights.

The march on Saturday joined up with the Chico Peace Endeavor Vigil's weekly Saturday morning protest near the Chico City Plaza.
The march ran from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
