Another week, another mass shooting. Someone make it stop! I know mental distress and other factors can play a big part in these incidents. But banning assault weapons can and will take killing power out the hands of these sick individuals. I know it might not be a total answer, but every little bit helps, right?
As a concerned citizen and retired teacher, I ask our elected officials: Please don’t let the gun lobbyists write our gun laws. They have everything to win, and we have everything to lose -- our lives.
The Constitution gives Americans the right to bear arms for a well-trained militia, not for deranged 18- and 21-year-old shooters. Where is my constitutional right to be safe at parades, in classrooms, and at social events?
When I was a teacher and underwent “intruder training,” we were told to be prepared for a shooter. Not “if” this will happen, but “when” it will happen. Congress, please make it stop!
