Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 … "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." First and foremost, without the gift of Life, Liberty and Happiness are a moot point.
YES, SCOTUS did get it right, abortion is not a constitutional right and they did not set policy on abortion. "To be clear, then, the Court's decision today does not outlaw abortion throughout the United States" (Justice Brett Kavanaugh, concurring). I urge you to read the decision yourself. The Court has now reverted to a neutral position on abortion, and state and federal legislatures can protect babies in the womb, their mothers, at any stage of pregnancy. Protecting babies and mothers are legitimate state interests, and the door is open for any pro-life law that reasonably advances this interest. However, what does not change, a woman still has the right to access an abortion if their state or another state allows and provides for this.
Fellow Idahoans, don't be shocked, Idaho IS a pro-life state and pro-life laws have been passed because its citizens have voted in pro-life legislators. Again, read the decision, for it states, to leave the abortion policy "to the people and their elected representatives" (Dobbs decision, p.1).
