People tell Sean McVay he seems like he's in a better mood this offseason, one in which the Los Angeles Rams acquired quarterback Matthew Stafford in a trade for Jared Goff. And the Rams coach wholeheartedly agrees.
"I said, 'You're damn right I am,'" McVay said. "This guy, he's a special guy."
McVay's comments were made at an event at SoFi Stadium held by the Super Bowl host committee and legends community, where McVay and Stafford offered remarks and 56 community organizations were honored.
The Rams traded for Stafford in January for Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick. In their four months together, McVay said he feels like he's become a better coach because of the veteran quarterback, who left the Detroit Lions as the organization's all-time leading passer. The 33-year-old has thrown for 4,000-plus yards in eight of the past 10 seasons.
"One of the best ways that I can describe him (is) when you hear from people who have been around him, there's a known confidence where when he walks into a room, you always feel his presence. But he's got a great humility about himself. Everybody loves being around him," McVay said. "And he's one of those guys where I think he's a true ignitor — he makes everybody around him better."
