As of 9:45 a.m., Verizon customers on the East Coast continued to complain of a texting outage, but Verizon representatives say the issue has been fully resolved.
On Tuesday morning, a texting outage affected customers across the East Coast, prompting angry customers to take to social media. Social media reports of the outage first surfaced at about 5 a.m.
But by 9:45 a.m., service had been fully restored to all affected customers, said David Weissmann, public relations manager for Verizon's North East market.
"The issue has been fully resolved, Weissmann said. "Anybody that was affected by this issue it should be fully resolved at this time."
Engineers had identified the issue and service was fully restored, he said.
Despite Weissmann's statements, customers continued to tweet service issues to Verizon's customer service, which also is still replying to customers saying there is an outage.
The texting outage prompted outrage, complaints and threats of cancellation from Verizon customers. Customers tweeted their frustration as Verizon customer service worked to address the concerns.

Some customers called for a hashtag to push Verizon to fix the problem, while others pointed out just how much people rely on texting.
Although Verizon did not confirm the scope of the outage, Down Detector, a website that tracks service and power outages, had a map with reported service outages.
