Monday night the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A club, the Indianapolis Indians, saw just about everything go wrong in a 17-1 loss against the Columbus Clippers
Monday night was one that the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A club would like to soon forget. This is because the Indianapolis Indians had just about everything imaginable go wrong as they were blown out by the Columbus Clippers 17-1. With the loss, the Indians are now just a game over .500 on the season at 74-73.
Osvaldo Bido started for the Indians and quickly found himself in trouble. Bido lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on six hits. Three of the six hits he allowed were home runs and he struck out three.
Lefty Cam Alldred followed Bido and also had a very poor night. Alldred allowed 5 runs on four hits, two walks, two home runs, and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. This outing led to Alldred’s ERA on the season climbing over 4.00 as it rose to 4.07.
Zach Matson followed Alldred and was able to put a bit of a foot down. In 3 innings pitched, Matson allowed a run on four this while striking a batter out. Dillon Peters then struck a batter out in a scoreless 8th inning.
Travis MacGregor took the ball in the 9th inning and the pitching struggles returned. MacGregor allowed 6 runs on four hits, a walk, a home run, and a strikeout. However, due to a Blake Sabol error only 2 of the 6 runs allowed by MacGregor were earned.
While Sabol had his 9th inning error, he did have another big night at the plate. Sabol, who started in left field, finished the night 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. This was his seventh multi-hit game in the month of September and it rose his OPS at the Triple-A level to 1.003 as he continues to push to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason.
Sabol’s this were two of just five on the night for the Indians. Designated hitter Brendt Citta also went 2-for-4 and he drove in the lone Indianapolis run of the night. A Mason Martin single was the only other hit of the night for the Indians.
