The countdown to MLB's best player is about to start.
MLB Network's annual Top 100 Right Now series begins on Tuesday, and the top players in baseball entering 2021 will be revealed over the next two weeks. Who do you think will be the best of the best?
Will Mike Trout claim the No. 1 spot once again this season? Or will he be dethroned by a challenger like L.A. rival Mookie Betts, or a rising young star like Fernando Tatis Jr. or Juan Soto or Ronald Acuña Jr.? How about an ace pitcher like Jacob deGrom or Gerrit Cole or Shane Bieber?
You'll have to wait and see. The Top 100 countdown will air in six segments, kicking off with Nos. 100-81 this Tuesday and concluding next Thursday with the final superstar countdown from No. 10 down to No. 1.
Here's the full schedule. All the segments air at 7 p.m. ET.
Tuesday, Feb. 9 -- Nos. 100-81
Wednesday, Feb. 10 -- Nos. 80-61
Thursday, Feb. 11 -- Nos. 60-41
Tuesday, Feb. 16 -- Nos. 40-21
Wednesday, Feb. 17 -- Nos. 20-11
Thursday, Feb. 18 -- Nos. 10-1
Tune in to find out who will break into the list this year, and who will rise up the ranks. There are sure to be some new faces and big surprises for 2021.
In 2020, Trout took the title of best player in baseball for the fifth season in a row, and the seventh time in his career. Here was the top 10 for last year, with 2020 clubs listed:
To come up with the Top 100 Right Now, MLB Network's production and research team used statistical and scouting analysis to rank the 100 best players in MLB for the 2021 season. MLB Network’s formula to rank the top 100 players differs from the Shredder, which is used to determine MLB Network’s annual ranking lists for the Top 10 players at each position.
