LOS ANGELES — Astros manager Dusty Baker said nothing is structurally wrong in Zack Greinke’s right arm, but his status for the remainder of Houston’s postseason run remains in limbo.
Greinke did not start any of the Astros’ first three American League Division Series games. After Game 2 on Tuesday, Baker revealed that Greinke is “ailing” and suffering from “arm soreness.”
Greinke threw on the field at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night under the watchful eye of pitching coach Brent Strom. Greinke did not appear to be exerting much intensity and threw about 15 flat ground pitches.

“Strommy said it went pretty good,” Baker said on Wednesday. “Especially after I think he went to see the doctors and they said there was nothing structural in there, so he felt better about that. I’m hoping that we win today’s game and then we’ll have a few days off to rehab and to try to feel better before the next (series).”
Baker did not answer whether Greinke would be available to pitch if the American League Division Series against the A’s goes beyond Wednesday. Houston held a 2-0 series lead headed into Game 3 and, with a win, would clinch a spot in its fourth straight American League Championship Series.
Should the series require a fourth game, Baker was noncommittal on a possible starting pitcher. If Greinke is not healthy, Cristian Javier is the most logical option, but Baker threw him for 25 pitches during the team’s 10-5 victory in Game 1. Rookie Luis Garcia, who was stretched out at the team’s alternate site, is also on the ALDS roster as a candidate.
