VW ID all-electric hatchback pre-orders open May 8, production version comes in September - Electrek

VW’s ID all-electric hatchback, the Volkswagen group’s first electric vehicle based on the MEB platform for volume production, is going to be available through pre-orders on May 8 and the production version is going to be unveiled in September.

The company’s board made the announcement at their annual meeting today – along with several other new initiatives.

They said that the production version of the ‘ID’ will be presented at the IAA in September, but “customers can pre-book the launch edition of the ID. from May 8.”

Board Member for Sales, Jürgen Stackmann, was optimistic about opening up pre-orders:

“Given the interest in the ID. family shown by our dealers, I think it is possible that the launch edition will already have sold out before we unveil the ID. in September,”

More information about the ID is expected to be released then, but VW has already been releasing some key features over the last year.

Stackmann previously said that the vehicle will come to Europe at the end of 2019, it will have “up to 550 km of range” (WLTP), and it will go on sale for “the price of a modern Golf Diesel”, which means a little less than $30,000.

While the vehicle is expected to start at less than $30,000 and to have “up to 550 km” of range, those specs could be for the base version and top-of-the-line version respectively.

Christian Senger, VW’s Head of Product Line for E-Mobility, recently said that the vehicle will be offered in 3 battery configurations.

The two other versions are expected to have a WLTP range of about 330km (205 miles) and 450 km (280 miles).

Other information that has leaked in the past few months includes the option of 7.2 kW and 11 kW onboard chargers for level 2 charging and the DC fast-charging capability will support a charge rate up to 125 kW.
